The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
