Sam Fender has handed over the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's small music venues.

He was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release People Watching was declared the top album of the previous year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues caused by flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations received financial assistance in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from shows in major spaces backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to contribute his honor funds to good deeds.

When they earned the trophy in 1996 for their release the album, vocalist the singer stated that the band would donate their cash to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, artist she shared her prize across a few organizations, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite told the media.

In recent years, the band gave their funds to the local youth club that supported their act, alongside other local music groups.

Also the 1994 recipients M People contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," stated singer Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had saved several grassroots venues in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and the other in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by a national body and supporters who buy "shares" in the properties.
